I used to hate the "how many years of experience do you have" question on resumes in my early 20's just starting out in the workforce. I mean, everyone has to start somewhere right? Now with a little experience under my boots, it's interesting to look back on everything I have learned...so far!
6 years ago this December, I purchased my very first DSLR after months of research and deliberating and wondering if my investment would really be worth it or if I should just use the money towards something reasonable, like student loans. As you can guess, I decided student loans could wait and made the plunge into photography. And it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. A couple of photography blogs started and forgotten about, about a zillion photographs, countless SD cards, a number of photography classes, a couple of lens, hours and hours of editing, Pinterest and Instagram stalking of photographers I admire and a lot of happy photo shoots later, I finally feel like I am settling into my very own in the big wide world of photography. There's nothing I love more than showing up to a photo session or event with my camera bag around my shoulder, and for those of you who have seen me work, once I start snapping pictures, I don't stop! Little moments are everything to me. 6 years later I can confidently say I have developed a subtle style of my very own, but still very much rely on the feeling and styles of my subjects to carry me through the photo shoot and editing process. After all, I am just there to capture their moments and freeze some of their happy memories in time. So while you will notice a certain feel to most of my photos, I very much like to think I only impose a certain little bit of my own creativity onto someone else's moments. I do my best to show others through my eye/lens, to make it their very own. My love for telling other peoples stories started long before I got my first very own DSLR in my hands however. My junior year of college, I fell in love with journalism and ended with a master's degree in multimedia journalism. I loved showing up for a story with pen/paper/video camera/camera/voice recorder in hand. The chance to tell a story that had yet to be told. Slowly that love of real life story telling became more visual for me and is something I still think of when I photograph today. So, in closing, my name is Christine Donovan. I have 6 years of experience in photography. Nice to meet you!
